In addition to his dual roles of defending his country and seeking peace with its neighbors, the late Yitzhak Rabin sought a more just and tolerant Israeli society. To honor this aspect of Rabin’s life and to remember the dark forces of intolerance that ultimately led to his death, the Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capital (JPDS-NC) presents the seventh annual Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture, “Law and Justice,” featuring Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Elena Kagan in conversation with Leon Wieseltier, literary editor of The New Republic. As the nation’s top appellate lawyer, dean of its most prestigious law school, counselor to presidents and now an associate justice of the Supreme Court, Elena Kagan’s life has been one dedicated to the pursuit of justice.
As part of its commitment to education in the community, the Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation’s Capital (JPDS-NC) established the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture Series. This year’s Rabin lecture continues a series of outstanding public appearances honoring the legacy of Yitzhak Rabin. Past Rabin lecturers have included Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel, and Yuval Rabin, the late prime minister’s son. JPDS-NC is an independent community school, and the only Jewish day school in Washington, DC. |
