A ceremony marking the building's rededication as Sixth & I Historic Synagogue was held on April 22, 2004. Filling the sanctuary to capacity, the theme of the rededication was "From Generation to Generation."
The program included a welcome by Rory Zuckerman, wife of founder Shelton Zuckerman, and was hosted by Steve Buckhantz, the "voice of the Washington Wizards."
Music was provided by the Capitol Duo (flutist Cristina Burack and bassoonist Libby Miles); the Turner Memorial A.M.E. Church choir, vocalist Mark Novak, Washington Hebrew Congregation cantor Mikhail Manevich and cellist Neale Perl, president of the Washington Performing Arts Society, accompanied by Andrew Rosenblum. Three shofarot were sounded by Police chaplain Colin Alter and Natasha and Misha Shangold. |
