After the
Adas Israel congregation found a buyer for the old synagogue
property at Sixth and G Streets, N.W., it purchased
Lot 18, Square 453 at the southwest corner of Sixth & I
Streets, N.W. with a
frontage of 85 feet on Sixth and 75 feet on I Street. The
cost in 1905: $7,000 in cash, $10,500 payable in a
year at 4.5%.
Shown to the right of center on the plat at right, the lot
is labeled "Hebrew Church."
In the interim period
between the purchase of the property and the construction of
the new synagogue, the congregation worshipped in rented
space. |
