A ceremony marking the building's rededication as the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue
for use by the Jewish community was held on April 22, 2004,
filling the sanctuary to capacity. The theme of the
rededication was "From Generation to Generation."
The program included a
welcome by Rory Zuckerman of the Sixth & I Planning
Committee and was hosted by Steve Buckhantz, the "voice of
the Washington Wizards."
Music was provided by
the Capitol Duo (flutist Cristina Burack and bassoonist
Libby Miles); the Turner Memorial A.M.E. Church choir,
vocalist Mark Novak, Washington Hebrew Congregation cantor
Mikhail Manevich and cellist Neale Perl, president of the
Washington Performing Arts Society, accompanied by Andrew
Rosenblum. Three shofarot were sounded by Police
chaplain Colin Alter and Natasha and Misha Shangold.
