As a non-denominational synagogue, Sixth & I does not have a rabbi on staff. Instead,
we have a dynamic group of rabbis - representing all Jewish denominations - who
lead Shabbat services on a rotating schedule. For High Holidays, Sixth & I offers
four different services: an explanatory service for young professionals; a participatory
traditional service; a service for families with young children; and a multi-cultural
service incorporating traditions and music from Jewish communities around the world.
Sixth & I recognizes that being Jewish looks and feels different for many Jews,
and we honor this diversity by casting a wide net in our unique Jewish programming
and religious services.

Sixth & I is teaming up with Reboot to empower you to take the Sabbath back. Sabbath Manifesto, a national project designed to slow down lives, is based on 10 core principles:
1. Avoid Technology 6. Light Candles
2. Connect With Loved Ones 7. Drink Wine
3. Nurture Your Health 8. Eat Bread
4. Get Outside 9. Find Silence
5. Avoid Commerce 10. Give Back
For principle #10, please support Street Sense by bringing reporter notepads, disposable cameras, printer paper, stamps, file folders, $5 Metro fare cards, pocket dictionaries, and/or flash drives.
This shabbat is supported in part by the family of Israel Ellenberg on the occasion of his yahrzeit. |

MesorahDC helps people in their 20s and 30s experience a beautiful and tasty Shabbat. To usher in the Shabbat, we begin with a traditional, easy-to-follow service, based around the stirring melodies of the late Jewish composer, Shlomo Carlebach. Explanations and a running commentary accompany the service, so that even people less familiar with it feel more connected. The service is followed by a full-scale, gourmet Shabbat meal.
Elliot Brandt is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's Western States Director and will be speaking during dinner about Israel and the United States.
*Please note that this service has separate seating. |
