The building's original rose window,
located on the Eastern wall of the sanctuary, had been replaced
in the 1980s with one designed by a church member that featured
symbols of the A.M.E. church. The original window was lost after
it was removed.
A team at Classic Glass,
Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia,
however, working from vintage black
and white photos, recreated the original design, drawing colors
from other stained glass windows in the worship space that dated
back to
the building’s construction.
At right: the recreated, stained-glass
rose window, featuring a menorah motif, in situ.

This early photo of an Adas Israel
confirmation class, which shows the rose window, guided the
restoration team in its efforts. |
This is how the rose window
appeared while the building was occupied by Turner Memorial
A.M.E. Church. |
As the restoration
team installed each section of the new rose window, a Star of
David once again took shape in the window’s tracery. |
