Loneliness and Connection

In DC, many of our smart phones are filled with contacts, our evenings with happy hours and networking events. But are we truly connected to each other? Why might we feel alone even when surrounded by hundreds of others? As we approach the High Holy Day season, a time when we are supposed to come together as a kehila kedosha (holy community), how can we move beyond Instagram and social sports to create and maintain deep and long-lasting connections?

Join Rabbi Shira to study traditional Jewish and contemporary secular texts and discuss how to create meaningful connections. In advance of the class, each participant is asked to email a text on the theme of loneliness or connection; the text does not have to be related to Judaism. Texts discussed in the workshop will serve as a springboard for the themes explored in one of Rabbi Shira’s High Holiday sermons.
