In Shabbat We Trust: Friday Night Services

Jan 20, 2017 • 6:00 pm ET
  • This event has passed.

On the evening of the new President’s inauguration, within the whirlwind of politics and emotions, lies the eye of the storm: Shabbat. Twenty-five hours to restore our sense of inner dignity and calm, to remind us of the principles that represent goodness and justice, and to lift us into commitment and resolve. In partnership with Jews United For Justice, T’ruah, Jewish Women International, Lilith magazine, JCRC, NCJW, and more, this service for Washingtonians and out-of-town visitors alike will give all who come the chance to rise up, sing together, and trust in the power of Shabbat.

Dinner is a Kosher meat meal, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. If you have any additional food needs, please contact Abby at least four days before the event. The menu includes:

To start:
Hummus with crudités (vegan, GF)
Tuna and avocado tartare (GF)

Dinner:
Chicken in pomegranate and date molasses (GF)
Vegetarian option: Roasted tofu in pomegranate and date molasses (GF)
Kale, wheat berries, fig and walnut salad in a balsamic vinaigrette (vegan, *contains walnut, GF option available)
French lentil salad (vegan, GF)
Butternut squash and harissa rice (vegan, GF)

Dessert:
Sour cherry crumble (vegan)
Vanilla ice cream (vegan, GF)

Sixth & I is committed to being an accessible and welcoming resource for the community. The subsidized price of $15 for Shabbat dinner does not reflect the true cost of the meal provided. If you are able, we ask that you consider selecting the full-price Shabbat dinner option to offset the costs of the program and dinner and to support our continued community-building efforts.

Additional events taking place throughout the weekend include: A Gathering of Strength and the Sabbath Day Pass.
