Who may use Sixth & I's facilities?
Sixth & I’s sanctuary and other spaces are available for Jewish life-cycle events, including interfaith marriages, LGBT commitment ceremonies and weddings, b’nai mitzvot, bris and naming ceremonies, and memorial services, as well as non-profit and other private rentals.

What spaces are available for an event? May I reserve them all together?
The sanctuary, social hall, and two multi-purpose rooms are available for rent. You may reserve as many spaces as you would like (at an additional cost, of course) provided that we have no conflicting events. Floor layouts are available here.

How much does it cost to rent a space?
Private event rental fees are for 3 and 6-hour time-slots and are based on the type of event and the spaces used. Tables and chairs are available for rent at competitive pricing. For further pricing information for private or non-profit (501c3) rentals, please contact David Goldstein (202.266.3235).

Can I reserve a space during any part of the day or night?
We have two time-slots: morning and evening. Morning rentals must vacate the building by 4:00 pm, and evening rentals may not use the building until 4:00 pm. Other time slots may be available upon special request.

How can I reserve a date? How many dates can I reserve at once?
We can tentatively hold a date and time-slot for two weeks without charge, but we cannot guarantee a date and time-slot without a rental deposit, which is half of the rental fee. We can hold only one date and time-slot at a time.

What is your kashruth (kosher) policy? May I bring in catered food?
Any food brought into the synagogue has to be strictly kosher. Please click
here for more detailed information.

Does the rabbi or Jewish officiant have to be of a specific denomination?
While we do require a Jewish officiant to be the lead at life-cycle events, he or she does not have to be of a specific denomination. We do ask rabbis/Jewish officiants who are not local to fax or mail a copy of their ordination certificates to Sixth & I: (fax) 202.408.5124 or (mail) 600 I St. NW, Washington, DC 20001.

Are there other restrictions we should take into account?
No food or drink is allowed in the sanctuary. Any equipment brought into the synagogue (i.e., flowers, a chuppah, a dance floor) must be taken out the same day unless other arrangements are made ahead of time. Additional charges will be assessed for equipment left behind. If you are planning on dropping petals during a wedding, we require a runner. Soft candy-throwing is permitted at b’nai mitzvot celebrations. Also, please note that we are handicapped accessible.
