SUMMARY:Justice and Jewish Thought
DESCRIPTION:This is an 8-week course on Wednesdays from April 18 to June 6. \n With occupiers camped around the country\, same-sex marriage legalization efforts gaining ground\, and debates about immigrant rights becoming a focal point of the 2012 elections\, social justice advocacy is coming to the forefront of public attention.  \n In this eight-week\, lay-led course\, you and a small group of committed people will delve into a range of contemporary social justice issues from a Jewish perspective\, examining topics such as race\, class\, gender\, sexual identity\, economic justice\, Zionism\, diasporism\, and anti-Semitism through lively\, salon-style discussions based on weekly readings. Participants take turns hosting in their homes and facilitating group discussions\, exploring how these issues affect our Jewish identities and practices.  \n The first meeting will be held at Sixth & I (600 I Street\, NW) and the last meeting will be held at Jews United For Justice (2027 Massachusetts Avenue\, NW). All other meetings will take place in participant’s homes but hosting is not required for all participants.
