SUMMARY:Livin' on a Prayer
DESCRIPTION:This three-part class meets Wednesdays\, April 8\, 22 and May 6 at 7:30 pm. \nYou walk into Sixth & I. You sit down. The prayerbook is right there in front of you. The service starts.  The questions begin: What am I supposed to do? Do I participate? Do I sit quietly? How am I supposed to feel? Do I believe in God? If I don’t\, should I be here? If I do believe\, how do these words bring me closer? What does it mean to pray? \nIf you’re looking to make prayer relevant and meaningful but feel like you’re only halfway there\, this experimental and collaborative seminar\, led both by the community and by Rabbi Scott\, is ideal for anyone who’s ever asked\, “Why pray?.” \nEach week we’ll choose a different Jewish prayer to focus on and a member of the group will be in charge of leading the discussion. How we approach the prayer will vary each week\, but we will investigate the meaning of the prayer\, explore its possible significance in our lives\, and share how we feel about and connect to it. We will talk about why we pray and what we hope to accomplish through prayer. It does not matter where you are in your Jewish journey\, just that you’re willing to learn and grow with the group. The goal of this class is to build a “chavurah\,” or intimate group\, of about 15 people that will meet every other week to talk about how we experience divinity in our lives— how we\, as individuals and as a community\, connect with God.
