SUMMARY:CANCELED: Luray and Fellow Creatures
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, this concert has been canceled. All ticket buyers will be contacted and refunded in full. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. \nLuray creates strange and lovely bedfellows of sound – banjos\, vibes\, pedal steel\, and ambient vocals make up this once bluegrass-picking songwriter’s newly roused approach to making music. The end result is somewhere between the likes of Iron & Wine and Emmylou Harris. \nLuray’s debut album The Wilder was called “beautifully lush” by Bob Boilen of NPR. Led by banjo player and singer/songwriter Shannon Carey\, the album was produced with help from brother Sean Carey of S. Carey and Bon Iver. Since recording the album in Sean’s attic in 2012\, the band has taken on new life and sound\, including Richmond-based jazz musicians Brian Cruse on bass\, CJ Wolfe on drums\, and Scott Burton on guitar. The Wilder received widespread praise and has been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered. Since The Wilder’s release\, Luray has been busy touring the East Coast and Midwest\, and has a second album in the works. \nPart circuit-bending weirdos\, part self-deluding pop stars\, Fellow Creatures emerged from the remains of the beloved Ugly Purple Sweater in late 2014 and quickly became known as one of DCʼs most distinctive and compelling live bands. Centered on the deft vocal harmonizing and genre-blurring songwriting of Sam McCormally and Will McKindley-Ward\, Fellow Creatures makes an impression with their layered arrangements and propulsive rhythm section. The band’s eclectic physical sensibility has earned comparisons with the Talking Heads and Yeasayer. Fellow Creature’s first two singles\, Allies and Seance (Shuka)\, released in early 2015\, offer a taste of the band’s debut album\, produced by Louis Weeks and engineered by Chris Freeland (Lower Dens).
