DESCRIPTION:A limited number of tickets include access to a post-event signing for those who would like their book personalized and/or have their photo taken with the author.  \nOn the occasion of the paperback release of the New York Times bestseller Crying in H Mart\, Michelle Zauner shares from her unforgettable memoir about family\, food\, grief\, love\, and growing up Korean American.\n \nWith humor and heart\, she writes about her experience as one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene\, Oregon; of struggling with her mother’s high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; and of treasured months spent in her grandmother’s tiny apartment in Seoul\, where she and her mother would bond\, late at night\, over heaping plates of food. As she grew up\, moving to the East Coast\, finding work in the restaurant industry\, and performing gigs with her fledgling band—and meeting the man who would become her husband—her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant\, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother’s diagnosis of terminal cancer when Zauner was twenty-five that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste\, language\, and history her mother had given her. \nZauner is a GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter who performs under the name Japanese Breakfast. She is currently adapting Crying in H Mart as a feature film for MGM’s Orion Pictures. \nZauner will be in conversation with Kat Chow\, a reporter and writer\, and the author of Seeing Ghosts: A Memoir\, named a New York Times Notable Book of 2021. She was a reporter at NPR\, where she was a founding member of the Code Switch team and podcast. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine\, The Atlantic\, New York Magazine’s The Cut and on Radiolab\, among others. \nThis event will include ASL interpretation for the virtual audience.
