SUMMARY:In Shabbat We Trust: Sabbath Day Pass
DESCRIPTION:During the afternoon of Shabbat\, Sixth & I will offer a variety of ways to engage around and process the Inauguration\, along with comfort food and spiritual comfort. Teachers\, thought-leaders\, activists\, and facilitators will lead a wide array of activities\, from meditation and yoga to text-study sessions and salon-style conversations. The schedule includes: \n1:00 – 3:00 pm – Lunch \n2:00 – 3:00 pm – Power and Powerlessness\nRabbi Jill Jacobs\, Executive Director of T’ruah\, leads a textual exploration of anti-Semitism\, intersectionality\, and where Jews fit in liberation movements.\nRSVP here. \n2:00 – 3:00 pm – Discussion to process experiences at the March. RSVP here. \n2:00 – 3:00 pm – Rejuvenate through Song\nRelax and enjoy an hour of joyous and rejuvenating singing led by Jews United For Justice. What makes a melody beautiful\, moving\, sacred? According to a teaching attributed to Rabbi Nehemia Polen\, when we sing a truly powerful niggun (song without words)\, every note looks to the one before it and says\, “Thank you for being my rebbe.” And every note turns to the one that comes after it and says\, “I give you permission to be even more beautiful than I am.” After a march that both honors our foremothers and blesses our daughters\, we’ll gather to sing that way\, as best as we can\, for a good long while. RSVP here. \n3:15 – 4:15 pm – Restorative yoga\nRSVP here. \n3:15 – 4:15 pm –A Gathering of Women\nJewish Women’s Archive and Not Your Bubbe’s Sisterhood host an informal\, multi-generational conversation about Jewish women’s responses to the inauguration\, the Women’s March\, and the new administration. What scares us\, what gives us hope\, what sparks our passion as we face this uncertain time as Jews and as women?\nRSVP here. \n3:15 – 4:15 pm – Community Organizing Skills\nJews United for Justice and Good Guys at the Barricades bring you a taste of community organizing skills – and a taste of your own power to make real change. So many of us are looking for direction on how to effectively push back against hate and discrimination in this new era- and we need everyone. In this mini-training we’ll ask such burning questions as: What is power? Why organize? How do we organize? RSVP here. \n4:30 – 5:30 pm – Restorative meditation\nRSVP here. \n4:30 – 5:30 pm – “What happens tomorrow?”\nLet’s talk next steps. Lori Weinstein\, CEO of Jewish Women International\, leads a conversation on bringing it home. How will we ensure that rights and issues critical to women are legislatively prioritized in the years ahead? RSVP here. \n4:30 – 5:30 pm – Food for the Journey: Faith-ful Reflections on the Day for the Work Ahead\nJoin powerful women faith leaders Yavilah McCoy (Jewish) and Sharon Groves (Christian) for a chance to reflect on the events of this weekend from the perspective of faith. Hear about what’s inspiring these women to greater courage\, commitment and action\, and share what’s going on for you. RSVP here. \n5:30 – 6:00 pm – Healing & Solidarity Through the Arts\nCelebrate the power of diversity in a performance by artists from The Sanctuaries\, the first interfaith arts community in the country. Through music\, spoken word\, and storytelling\, find renewed strength and inspiration for the road ahead. \n6:00 – 6:30 pm – Havdallah \nLunch is a Kosher vegetarian meal and gluten-free options are available. If you have any additional food needs\, please contact Abby at least four days before the event. \nAdditional events taking place throughout the weekend include: In Shabbat We Trust: Friday Night Services and A Gathering of Strength.
