LOCATION: Jefferson Memorial – 701 E Basin Drive, SW
In addition to penning the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson is perhaps best known for his ardent support of religious freedom and his role in shaping the First Amendment. His personal views of Christianity and Judaism are complex and sometimes quite critical and his relationship to slavery has called into question his commitment to liberty.
In this ongoing series about the founding fathers and their faith, learn how Jefferson’s diverse religious beliefs shaped the foundation of American democracy. Grab a picnic dinner and a blanket and meet Rabbi Suzy at the Jefferson Memorial.
