DC Roots: Exploring Urban Farming
Summer Cycling Series
- This event has passed.
In partnership with DC Jews on Bikes.
Fresh produce is something we can all enjoy, but it isn’t something everyone in DC has equal access to. Learn about food justice and urban farming as we cycle to Northeast DC for a tour of East Capitol Urban Farm. Following the tour, help harvest fresh greens to deliver to DC Central Kitchen and enjoy a local, sustainably sourced vegetarian meal by DC native chef and restaurateur, Shawn Lightfoot of Art-drenaline Cafe.
We will depart on bike as a group at 9:30 am.
Don’t have a bike? Bikes can be rented from several nearby Capital Bikeshare stations located at:
5th Street and Massachusetts Ave., NW (Station 31265)
8th and H Street, NW (Station 31228)
5th and K Street, NW (Station 31600)
Want to experience the farm without wheels?
East Capitol Urban Farm is easy to access by metro. The farm is located directly across the street from the Capitol Heights Metro Station (Blue/Silver line). If you are traveling by metro, please plan to meet us at the farm at 11:00 am.
This program was made possible by a generous grant from New Belgium Brewing Company.
