This is a three-part class that meets Wednesdays, January 7, 14 and 28. Each class addresses the questions below through the lens of one of the “B’s” of Judaism: Believing on January 7; Behaving on January 14; and Belonging on January 28. Register for classes individually or all together.
What does it mean to be a “member” of the Jewish community in the 21st century? Rabbi Shira leads a three-week, discussion-based class that explores and questions traditional assumptions of what it means to practice Judaism in modern society. Through reading traditional and modern texts, this class will address and consider the following questions:
- Is there such a thing as “more” or “less” Jewish? Is Judaism more than shared history or shared message?
- How does my observance affect my Jewish identity?
- Am I responsiblefor or obligated to Judaism? And what does the term “my Judaism” mean, anyway? If we continue to be Jewish and not doJewish, then what will Judaism look like in the future?
Each week’s class will address the above questions through the lens of one of the the “B’s” of Judaism: Believing, Behaving, and Belonging.
