Timed with the paperback release of Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body, the New York Times bestselling author presents Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture, an anthology that addresses what it means to live in a world where women have to measure the harassment, violence, and aggression they face and are routinely discredited or patronized for speaking out.
Including an introduction by Gay, Not That Bad highlights stories of well-known actors and writers as well as new voices, covering a range of experiences from the rape epidemic embedded in the refugee crisis to first-person accounts of child molestation and street harassment. Deeply personal and honest, this collection offers a call to arms insisting that “not that bad” must no longer be good enough.
Gay is also the author of Bad Feminist, Marvel’s World of Wakanda, and the short story collections Difficult Women and Ayiti. She is a contributing opinion writer to The New York Times and has also written for TIME, the Los Angeles Times, and Salon, among others. In conversation with Linda Holmes, the host of NPR’s “Pop Culture Happy Hour.” Book signing to follow.
