The Deep Dive: Intensive Talmud Study

  • This event has passed.

This is a four month series that meets on Wednesdays, February 10, March 9, April 13, and May 11 at 6:00 pm and Fridays, February 26, March 25, April 22, and May 27 at 9:00 am.

When it comes to studying Talmud, you can dip a toe into the water, or you can dive into the deep end of this rich Jewish spiritual and ethical text.

Rabbi Scott and Gather the Jews’ Rabbi Aaron Potek join forces to guide students in classic, partnered Talmud study. Participants will be expected to create havruta (traditional study partnerships) and to prepare and review sources with their havruta on the off weeks.

Study will be primarily in English, but a ready knowledge of Hebrew letters and how to sound them out is required. Students should be prepared to learn to comprehend and translate basic Biblical verses. Prior experience with Talmud study is encouraged but not necessary.

Because of the nature of Talmud study, where topics, arguments, and texts are deeply interconnected, those wishing to join should be prepared to continue their studies for at least four months.
