When Faith and Politics Collide
with Wajahat Ali, Peter Beinart, and Liz Bruenig
- This event has passed.
Journalists Wajahat Ali (Muslim), Peter Beinart (Jewish), and Liz Bruenig (Christian), a motley group of monotheists, discuss how they bring their faith to bear in their work navigating and working to heal the frayed political and cultural terrains of today’s political landscape, in a conversation moderated by Rabbi Shira Stutman.
As outliers and disrupters, how do they confront these challenges while still remaining part of their religious communities when other members at times consider them to be sell-outs or traitors? How does their unique perspective and position afford them opportunities to expose and confront uncomfortable truths in their faith communities and greater America?
Peter Beinart is professor of journalism and political science at the City University of New York, a fellow at The Foundation for Middle East Peace, and contributes to The Atlantic, The Forward, and CNN.
Wajahat Ali is a New York Times contributing op-ed writer, CNN commentator, and award-winning playwright.
Liz Bruenig is an opinion columnist at The New York Times and previously at The Washington Post, where her writing focused on politics, religion, and morality in public life.
