Singer-songwriter Chan Marshall has shifted from her collaborative forays, a staple of her early career, into Memphis soul and Delta blues. She wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of Cat Power’s newest studio album SUN by herself, a statement of complete control that is echoed in the songs’ themes. Marshall calls SUN “a rebirth,” which is exactly what this confident, ambitious, charismatic record feels like.

As a contributor to the rise of experimental music in Los Angeles, multi-instrumentalist Nico Turner first became known in the underground music scene with her band VOICEsVOICEs and has played with such notable musicians as Brightblack Morning Light, Prefuse 73, Vincent Gallo, and most recently Cat Power. Her music is an atmospheric, seductive, unconventional, and ambient experience.
