From the MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient, founding director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research, and #1 New York Times bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist comes How to Raise an Antiracist, the book that every parent, caregiver, and teacher needs to raise the next generation of antiracist thinkers amidst the tragedies and reckonings around racism that are rocking the country.

How do we talk to children about racism and teach them to be antiracist? How are racist structures impacting children? How can we inspire children to avoid our mistakes and make the world better? Dr. Ibram X. Kendi avoided these questions as he anticipated the birth of his first child. But research and experience helped him realize that raising his child to be antiracist would actually protect them, and that teaching students about the reality of racism and the myth of race provides a protective education in our diverse and unequal world.

How to Raise an Antiracist combines scientific research with Kendi’s own journey as a parent and child, following the stages of child development from birth to teenager, because it is never too early or late to start raising young people to be antiracist.

In conversation with Dr. Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy, Dean of the School of Education and a professor at American University and the author of School Counseling to Close Opportunity Gaps: A Social Justice and Antiracist Framework for Success and Antiracist Counseling in Schools and Communities.

On June 14, Dr. Kendi will also publish Goodnight Racism, a modern bedtime classic illustrated by Cbabi Bayoc that gives children the language to dream of a better world.
