It is a commonly held belief that the Abrahamic religions are imbalanced when it comes to gender. In more traditional communities, women may be refused positions of power or treated differently because of religious law. Though there has been some–often quite a lot–of change over the past several decades, there still often remains the underlying challenge of gender-bias.
In the anthology Faithfully Feminist: Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Feminists on Why We Stay – which Mayim Bialik calls “a brave & powerful examination of observance & empowerment” – women representing all three religions write their personal stories of how they reconcile faith and feminism. Anthology editors Gina Messina-Dysert and Jennifer Zobair and contributor Rachel Lieberman lead a powerful discussion on how to navigate faith and feminism.
