The Hot Sardines
- This event has passed.
The Sardine sound—wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around—is steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt, and Fats Waller used to make: straight-up, foot-stomping jazz (literally—the band includes a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section). And while their roots run deep into jazz, they’re equally intertwined with French influences via their front-woman, who was born and raised in Paris (and who writes songs in both languages).
Please Note: Due to Hot Sardines vocalist Miz Elizabeth’s maternity leave, L.A.-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Bob Parins will be singing with the Hot Sardines in Saturday’s performance.
Washington Performing Arts performances at Sixth & I are made possible by the Abramson Family Foundation and by an anonymous gift in appreciation of Douglas Wheeler’s continuing efforts on behalf of Washington Performing Arts.
