Hot Topics Salon: Gun Violence
- This event has passed.
There have been 47,477 incidents of gun-violence so far in 2018; 12,056 people have been killed, including 553 under the age of 11. The terrorist attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue is only one example of the 297 mass shootings this year alone. But what do we do? Buy guns of our own to protect ourselves, work to curb all gun ownership, or something in between?
We look to Jewish tradition for an answer—but it’s not so clear. Rabbi Shira leads a guided discussion and text study exploring traditional and contemporary opinions on guns and who should (or should not) own them.
