What Does It Mean to Be "Jewish"?
- This event has passed.
What does it mean to be a “member” of the Jewish community in the 21st century? Rabbi Shira leads a discussion-based class that explores and questions traditional assumptions of what it means to practice Judaism in modern society. Through reading traditional and modern texts, this class will address and consider the following questions:
- Is there such a thing as “more” or “less” Jewish? Is Judaism more than shared history or shared message?
- How does my observance affect my Jewish identity?
- Am I responsible for or obligated to Judaism? And what does the term “my Judaism” mean, anyway? If we continue to be Jewish and not do Jewish, then what will Judaism look like in the future?
For those in their 20s and 30s
