Recently, many have engaged in the semantic debate regarding whether the detention centers at our southern border can rightfully be termed “concentration camps.” But behind this debate is a bigger and more important question: What are the benefits and drawbacks of making historical analogies to current events?
Not surprisingly, Judaism has some thoughts on the use of historical analogies. Rabbi Aaron leads an exploration of these texts and discusses their relevance today.
