Laughing at Ourselves: Jewish Humor and Women
Not Your Bubbe's Sisterhood 1-year Anniversary Event
- This event has passed.
Join Michelle Cove, Editor of 614: the HBI eZINE, for a night of discussion about Jewish women in comedy. In addition to laughing at clips from today’s popular Jewish women comics, we’ll discuss whether poking fun at our own stereotypes has a deeper impact: Is it okay to shine the spotlight on our stereotypes? Does it reinforce ignorant views about Jewish people, or does it somehow help break the stereotypes? Should Jewish stand-ups worry about the emotional effects of their comedy, or is it all about getting the big laugh? We’ll figure it out together in this salon-style conversation. It wouldn’t be an anniversary if we didn’t have CAKE. Come with a sweet tooth in tow.
*For women in their 20s and 30s. And for the record, we love all bubbes everywhere.
