After bottoming out, being institutionalized, and getting sober all by the age of 15, Moshe Kasher found himself asking: “What’s next?” Over the ensuing decades, he discovered the answer: a lot.

In Subculture Vulture: A Memoir in Six Scenes, the stand-up comedian, TV and film writer, and actor tells the story of the lives he has spent careening between: as a boy-king of Alcoholics Anonymous, helping other teens get sober; as a rave promoter turned DJ turned sober ecstasy dealer in San Francisco’s techno warehouse party scene; as a psychedelic security guard at Burning Man; as a child of deaf parents, translating everything from end-of-life care to horny deaf clients’ attempts to hire sex workers; and as someone making peace with his ultra-Hasidic Jewish upbringing after the death of his father.

A tour of the wildly distinct subcultures a person can experience, Subculture Vulture is a story of finding your people, over and over again, in different settings, and of knowing that wherever you are is where you’re supposed to be.

Kasher is the author of Kasher in the Rye and co-hosts “The Endless Honeymoon” podcast with his wife, Natasha Leggero. His Netflix specials include “Moshe Kasher: Live in Oakland” and “The Honeymoon Stand Up Special.”

Kasher will be in conversation with Lauren Ober, a podcast creator, host, and executive producer, most recently of “The Loudest Girl In The World” which was named one of the best shows of 2022 by the CBC and The Atlantic.

All books will be pre-signed by the author. A book signing will follow the event for those who would like their book personalized.

This program will be ASL interpreted for the in-person audience. To sit in the interpreted section or to access the interpreted feed virtually, contact Amanda.
