In Arguing with Zombies: Economics, Politics, and the Fight for a Better Future, the Nobel Prize–winning economist offers an accessible and compelling introduction to today’s major policy issues. From universal health care and trade wars to Social Security and climate change, Krugman provides strong arguments about the issues that shape our economy and impact our lives within the context of a wider debate in the 2020 election year.

A foe of zombie economics— the erroneous economic ideas that politicians and pundits continue to push, even after they have been disproven by economists or have failed in the real world—Krugman tackles many of these misunderstandings, taking stock of where the U.S. has come from and where it’s headed.

Drawn mainly from his popular New York Times column, the book provides a broad sample of Krugman’s most enduring work and a timeline in which to assess key ideas, place them in historical context, and connect them to the conflicts and controversies of the current administration. In conversation with Heather Boushey, the president and CEO for the Washington Center for Equitable Growth.
