A Threadhead Records Hurricane Katrina 5-year Anniversary Benefit Show

Come help kick off the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina Remembrance with a tribute to New Orleans musicians byNew Orleans musicians.

The big brass sounds of Big Sam and the Funky Nation and the folk-rock of award-winning Paul Sanchez and The Rolling Road Show demonstrate why NOLA is worth saving.

Paul Sanchez, former lead singer of Cowboy Mouth, left to pursue a solo career that “was closer to his heart and better demonstrated his talent as a singer/songwriter.” His seven solo albums have won over audiences with his prolific songwriting that just screams New Orleans. Sanchez has played a strong role within the city of New Orleans, taking on a prominent role in Threadhead Records, helping countless artists find a backbone to showcase their music.

Big Sam’s Funky Nation has seared their presence on the forefront of the New Orleans music scene. Trombone powerhouse and band leader “Big Sam” Williams, formerly of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, has been celebrated as “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz,” and the band has been touted for “bringing a straight raw party.” In the HBO original series “Treme,” Big Sam stars in a recurring role. The show follows residents of New Orleans as they try to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

All proceeds benefit Threadhead Records, a non-profit record label organized by Jazz Fest fans who watched in horror as NOLA filled with water and then was drained of talent. The group banded together to raise funds for musician loans where the local talent could come home, record an album, pay off the loan, and keep the New Orleans culture alive.
