Listen to Terri Lyne Carrington

Terri Lyne Carrington—the celebrated drummer, composer, and educator—is a three-time GRAMMY winner with over 40 years experience in music. A former “kid wonder,” Carrington later worked as a late night television drummer for the “Arsenio Hall Show” and Quincy Jones’ “VIBE TV.” Throughout her extensive touring and recording career, she has worked with luminary artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, Esperanza Spalding, and countless others.

Along with Bad Plus pianist Orrin Evans, rising star saxophonist Tia Fuller, emerging vocalist Charenee Wade, and DC JazzFest’s 2018 artist-in-residence Ben Williams, Carrington’s program pays tribute to her friend Geri Allen, the widely influential jazz pianist who was described by Carrington as peerless due to her deep understanding of the blues, swing, bebop, and post-bebop eras.
