In 2003, Rabbi Alan Lew published This is Real and You are Completely Unprepared: The Days of Awe as a Journey of Transformation, which outlines the path from terror to acceptance, confusion to clarity, doubt to belief, and from complacency to awe in the period leading up to the High Holidays. Weaving together Torah readings, Buddhist parables, Jewish fables, and stories from Dr. Lew’s life, he draws on ancient rituals to awaken our souls and transform us. Nearly two decades later, the book still resonates with Jews and spiritual seekers alike. But why?

With Rabbi Nora, take a deep dive into This is Real and You are Completely Unprepared as you embark on your own journey during the Days of Awe. You’ll have the opportunity to reflect on the book’s themes and discuss how they relate to your own experiences.

Participants must be able to commit to reading the 275-page book and attend, by video, both sessions of the book club. We encourage you to order the book from Politics and Prose Bookstore.
