Vusi Mahlasela
- This event has passed.
“A rare and mesmerizing musical mind [and] a voice that seems to have few limits.” – Los Angeles Times
A national treasure in his homeland of South Africa—where he is known simply and definitively as “The Voice”—Vusi Mahlasela was a powerful, rallying figure in the struggle against apartheid and continues to serve as a worldwide messenger for peace, dignity, and compassion. Anchored by Mahlasela’s soaring, plaintive vocals, and bolstered by a red-hot band, his concerts are occasions of infectious grooves and unbridled joy. In the words of Nobel Prize-winning South African novelist Nadine Gordimer: “Vusi sings as a bird does, in total response to being alive.”
This performance is available only on subscription through Washington Performing Arts until Monday, September 10, 2018. Click here for more information.
