Six Picks: Iconic Jewish Cultural Moments
With Joshua Malina and Rabbi Shira Stutman, Moderated by Hrishikesh Hirway
- This event has passed.
From the unforgettable “I’ll Have What She’s Having” scene in When Harry Met Sally and the “Simon says spin like a dreidel” game in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” to Philip Roth’s novels exploring Jewish American identity and comedy sketches by Mel Brooks, iconic Jewish moments across film, TV, books, and plays have long been cultural touchstones capturing the essence of Jewish life.
“The West Wing” and “Scandal”’s Joshua Malina—also a product of Jewish day school—will share his top three all-time Jewish cultural moments alongside the top three picks of Rabbi Shira Stutman. In a conversation moderated by musician and podcast producer/host Hrishikesh Hirway (“Song Exploder,” “Home Cooking,” and co-host with Malina of “The West Wing Weekly” podcast) they’ll share their picks, discuss why they both love them or disagree, unpack how they break down or perpetuate Jewish stereotypes, and peel back the layers on what’s being said between the lines.
