If you were at a party and someone made an offensive joke, what would you do, if anything at all? What’s the right thing to say when a new acquaintance says, “That’s funny, you don’t look Jewish.” What should you do if you hear a racist or homophobic slur while walking down the street? What’s the best course of action if your co-worker tells an Islamophobic joke in the office?

Last year, the number of hate crimes in DC increased by 66 percent. As these numbers continue to grow, learn how to respond to hate-based harassment and how to de-escalate aggressive behavior to make public spaces safer for everyone. This interactive workshop—led by two professional trainers from Collective Action for Safe Spaces, with additional perspective from Rabbi Suzy—will teach you how to be an effective ally.

As a part of the November 9th Project, this program is meant to reflect the diversity of the Sixth & I community. It is open to people of all faiths, backgrounds, and political persuasions.
